Wildlife officers say there was a cougar reported within Yellowknife city limits yesterday.
While it isn't confirmed that the animal is a cougar...some cyclists spotted an animal fitting the description on Fiddler's Road.
Wildlife officer Raymond Bourget says the animal was reported to have the same tawny-brown color of a cougar, similar markings and a long tail.
Officials are not taking any measures to remove the animal.
Bourget says it ran away from the cyclists who spotted it.
So it doesn't appear to be a threat to people.
He advises not to let dogs wander far ahead of you in off-leash areas for the their own safety.
And if humans spot a cougar...it's recommended to make yourself look as large as possible and back away slowly.
