Misconceptions of Long -Time Animals at the shelter

The NWT SPCA and the GSAH have noticed that there is a misconception by many people interested in pet adoption that dogs and cats that have spent a long time at the shelter have problems and are perceived as unadoptable.   It could be the breed of the animal that deters people or perhaps the age. The truth is that for no apparent reason some animals do spend a long time at the shelter but they are perfectly adoptable and are wonderful animals. So please consider an animal that has been at the shelter for a long time. They could very well be the best friend you will ever have.

We need your help with Fostering Kittens and Cats

There are currently 6 cats and kittens at the GSAH that need fostering.  They were found in Yellowknife abandoned and wild under a few houses.  These young cat/ kittens need to get used to people and be in a safe and warm environment so that they can get adopted out in the future. If you would like to help us get these beautiful cats ready for a forever home please contact the GSAH at 873-2579.  Thanks you for your help!

DON'T RUN YOUR DOG BESIDE YOUR VEHICLE!

Recently, another dog was killed after running alongside his human's vehicle. He veered in front and was hit and killed by his own person.

TOO MANY dogs have been killed in Yellowknife being run next to vehicles. Don't let your dog be next!

Always exercise your dog in a safe area and never run them next to a vehicle. If you see someone else doing it, carefully stop them and ask them to stop. Help do your part to make sure that all dogs are protected from this fatal pastime.

Help spread the word... download the Dogs Beside Vehicles Poster and post it in your place of work!
